This Interlude has a little bit of everything for those who love diverse and interesting adventure! Hoover Dam begins this sojourn only to be followed by the incredibly interesting “Gangster Museum” – different and deadly! Onto Death Valley to witness the ripples and patterns of the breathtaking sand dunes that rise 100 feet above the Mesquite Flats. Then, it’s a step back in time at the Route 66 “Mother Road” Museum, home to vintage cars, signs, photos and other memorabilia. Enjoy the desert playground and mid-century architecture mecca of Palm Springs while on a panoramic Palm Springs city tour. Included is an awesome Aerial Tram ride to the top of Mount San Jacinto for breathtaking views of the phenomenal landscape below.

Day 2 – Hoover Dam / Mob Museum
This morning take a short ride through historic Boulder City, founded to house workers during the construction of Hoover Dam and one of only two towns in Nevada where gambling is illegal. Then visit Hoover Dam & the Visitor’s Center, the highest concrete dam in the Western Hemisphere which backs up enough water in Lake Mead to cover Pennsylvania with a foot of water. This afternoon experience the Mob Museum, officially the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, a history museum located in Historic Old Downtown Las Vegas which showcases the history of famed gangsters. Day 3 – To Death Valley
This morning head west towards Death Valley. En-route stop at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, a desert oasis with a rare and unique ecosystem home to nearly 30 species of plants and animals that do not exist anywhere else on earth, including desert fish that have existed since the time of the mammoths. Continue on to Death Valley National Park, the largest national park south of Alaska and known for extremes. Visit famous Zabriskie Point, an elevated overlook onto a colorful, undulating landscape of gullies and mud hills at the edge of the Black Mountains with flat salt plains on the valley floor visible in the distance. At Stovepipe Wells, witness the ripples and patterns of the breathtaking sand dunes that rise 100 feet above the Mesquite Flat. Later check into your hotel in Death Valley for a one night stay. Day 4 – Death Valley / Route 66
This morning see more of Death Valley National Park. Visit Badwater Canyon, the lowest spot in North America. At 282 feet below sea level it’s a surreal landscape of vast salt flats. Then travel to Barstow, located on the famed Route 66. Take a step back in time with a visit to the Route 66 “Mother Road” Museum, home to vintage cars, signs, photos and other memorabilia. Day 5 – Joshua Tree National Park
This morning head out with a local guide for an exciting day into the Mojave Desert as you explore the fascinating landscape of Joshua Tree National Park which contains more than 700,000 acres, two deserts and two ecosystems. This unique habitat is also home to the ancient Joshua Tree: twisted, spiky trees that oddly soar in all directions skyward. This afternoon return to Palm Springs to enjoy a panoramic Palm Springs city tour. Day 6 – Palm Springs Tram / Temecula
This morning take the Palm Springs Aerial Tram to the top of Mount San Jacinto (altitude 8,516’) for amazing views of the valley below. Later ride back down and travel to picturesque Temecula to visit a local winery for a Wine Tasting experience. The Temecula area features over 30 wineries offering award-winning wines. Then travel south and arrive in San Diego, known as “America’s Finest City,” for a two night stay. Day 7 – San Diego Sightseeing

This afternoon enjoy a San Diego Harbor Cruise featuring a narrated tour that takes you under the Coronado Bridge, past military ships, waterfront landmarks and marine life, for an up-close, in-depth look at San Diego’s beauty and fascinating history.
