Day 1: Travel by coach from Indy to Pittsburgh
Along the way we’ll stop for lunch, then head to the Pittsburgh National Aviary Museum where you will see free-flying bird habitats, meet signature species and dive into new adventures. Day 2: Pittsburgh to the Brandywine Valley
Before departing visit The Cathedral of Learnings, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the 535-foot-tall Cathedral is the second-tallest educational building in the world after the University of Moscow’s main building. a Gothic Revival skyscraper. There we’ll tour the renowned Nationality Classrooms. Continue to the Brandywine Valley to our gracious Mendenhall Inn for 3-nights. This evening, enjoy our Welcome Dinner at the Inn. Day 3: Hagley Museum / Nemours Estate
Your visit to the Brandywine Valley begins at Hagley—what you discover here will put your entire trip into context. At the Hagley Museum, learn about the du Pont Family, French-descended American family whose fortune was founded on explosive powders and textiles. You will also tour the “Nation of Inventors” special exhibit. After lunch, explore the Nemours Estate comprises an exquisite, 77-room Mansion, the largest formal French gardens in North America, a Chauffeur’s Garage housing a collection of vintage automobiles, and 200 acres of scenic woodlands, meadows and lawns. Day 4: Valley Forge / Brandywine River museum / Longwood Gardens
Valley Forge is the site of the encampment of the Continental Army during the winter of 1777-1778. The park features 3,500 acres of monuments, meadows, and woodlands commemorating the sacrifices and perseverance of the Revolutionary War generation and honoring the power of people to pull together and overcome adversity during extraordinary times. Explore the encampment with a guided driving tour. Gardeners will delight in a hidden garden, Chanticleer, the most romantic imaginative and exciting public garden in America. Here, you’ll have time to wander and enjoy a box lunch. Next, we visit the Brandywine River Museum, often called the “Wyeth Museum” for its extensive collection of works by the internationally acclaimed Wyeth family. Enjoy some downtime before experiencing the world of Longwood Gardens…a place to see dazzling displays that elevate the art of horticulture … a place to watch majestic fountains spring to life…a place to relax and reconnect with nature. Day 5: Pennsylvania Amish / Sights & Sounds Theatre
Bid adieu to the Brandywine Valley and head to the Pennsylvania Amish Country. A picturesque landscape that must be witnessed in person to be fully appreciated. Rolling hills with lush grasses and crops, farms with windmills dotting the horizon, and horse and buggies sharing the road remind you that things are simpler in Lancaster County. Tour an Amish homestead and take in the backroads with a guided driving tour. Shop and sample at Kitchen Kettle Village. Kitchen Kettle Village has grown to 42 shops, 2 restaurants and 18 lodging rooms, all built around the canning kitchen that started it all.
